FH Unila's International Law Section Public Lecture Discusses International Arbitration

Bandar Lampung, Wednesday, October 23, 2024 - The International Law Section of the Faculty of Law, University of Lampung held a public lecture entitled INTERNATIONAL DISPUTE SETTLEMENT LAW today, in Hall E4 of the Faculty of Law, Unila. The event, which took place from 08.00 WIB until completion, was filled by Prof. Dr. Emmy Latifah, S.H., M.H., an academic from the Faculty of Law, Sebelas Maret University, as the main speaker.

In her remarks, Melly Aida, S.H., M.H., a senior lecturer at Unila's International Law Section, emphasized the importance of this event as part of the faculty's efforts to improve students' understanding of international dispute resolution.“This activity is a commitment of the faculty and also the International Law Section to enrich students' knowledge, especially in the field of international dispute resolution, including the international arbitration mechanism which is one of the effective methods in the realm of international law,” she explained.

The chief executive, Agit Yogi Subandi, S.H., M.H., who is also a lecturer in the international law department, in his statement revealed that this public lecture is a mandatory agenda that is routinely held.“We hold this public lecture to provide a space for collaboration and exchange of knowledge, not only between internal Unila students and lecturers, but also with lecturers from outside. We hope that this inter-campus collaboration can broaden the horizons of student understanding,” he said.

In a separate place, the Head of the International Law Section of the Faculty of Law also said that this activity is part of the faculty's initiative in providing academic space that supports student learning. “Public lectures like this are opportunities for students to be directly involved in academic discussions that enrich their knowledge in the field of international law,” he said.

Prof. Emmy Latifah in her presentation emphasized the importance of international arbitration as an effective and efficient dispute resolution mechanism in the realm of international law. She presented various real cases that had been resolved through arbitration and explained how the process took place, from the negotiation stage to the binding arbitration award. “Arbitration is a means of dispute resolution that can avoid the long process of litigation, provide flexibility for the parties to the dispute, and maintain independence and neutrality in the legal process,” said Prof. Emmy.

The public lecture was attended by the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Cooperation of the Faculty of Law, University of Lampung, Dr. Rudi Natamiharja, S.H., D.E.A., Secretary of the International Law Section, Siti Azizah, S.H., M.H., as well as lecturers from the International Law Section, Ria Wierma Putri, S.H., M.H., Ph.D., Agit Yogi Subandi, S.H., M.H., Rafika Rizky Aulia Rahman, S.H., M.H., are expected to be able to enrich students' insights, especially in applying international law theory into real practice, including arbitration mechanisms as an alternative dispute resolution that is increasingly relevant in the era of globalization.
